The New Cooperative Education Policy and Courses

The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 11 and 12, Cooperative Education, 2018 document includes both curriculum and policy related to the implementation of cooperative education. It will replace Cooperative Education and Other Forms of Experiential Learning: Policies and Procedures for Ontario Secondary Schools, 2000. Schools offering cooperative education are required to implement this curriculum policy document beginning September 2018. Course descriptions and codes, and other information about cooperative education courses were provided in a memo from Student Achievement Division in December 2017.

The new cooperative education courses and the revised policy reflect:

  • the realities of a rapidly changing interconnected world;
  • research on effective student learning in the 21st century;
  • curriculum that is student-centred, allowing for personalized learning, flexibility and student choice; and
  • the importance of meeting the diverse needs of all learners.
